Witness Says He Saw Remy with Gun

A witness testified during Remy Ma’s assault trial yesterday (March 11) that he saw the rapper cock back a .45 caliber pistol and get into victim Makeda Barnes-Joseph’s car shortly before the woman was shot in the abdomen. According to the Associated Press, 21 year-old student Oluwole Ajudun went on to testify that that he heard the pop of a gun shot shortly thereafter and saw Remy exit the vehicle. But prior to Ajudun’s testimony, witness Crystal Ricks testified that although she also heard a pop and saw a flash while Remy was in Barnes-Joseph’s car, she never saw the rapper with a weapon. Remy’s lawyer has stated that the gun went off accidentally as the two women struggled for it. Although investigators have already concluded that the weapon did fire accidentally, prosecutors insist that Remy shot Barnes-Joseph because she believed the woman stole $2000 from her purse.

Juelz Santana Arrested for Possession of Marijuana & Bullets

Unrelated to the previous article, maybe. Dipset MC Juelz Santana was arrested in New Jersey last week after police pulled him over for driving with a suspended license and found him to be in possession of marijuana and illegal hollow point bullets. According to the New York Daily News, the rapper’s Bentley was stopped by cops as he approached his home in Teaneck, NJ. After smelling marijuana and noticing several White Owl and Dutchmaster cigars in the vehicle, Officer John Abraham searched the car and found 29 hollow-point bullets and $19,500 in cash rolled up in bundles and hidden in a bag full of Jolly Rancher candies. The officer also discovered a rolled up blunt in the rapper’s shoe. Police later found a baggie full of weed in the back of the police car that they had placed Juelz in after arresting him. He is due in municipal court today (March 12) to answer to the charges.

Ice Cube to Stream SXSW Performance, Preps New Album

Ice Cube’s March 15 performance at the South by Southwest (SxSW) music and film festival in Austin, TX will be streamed live on his real-time online television network, UVNTV. Launched earlier this year, UVNTV.com is billed as “the first real-time streaming television network.” The site will utilize Microsoft’s new Silverlight technology to provide fans unable to make the free concert with a high quality viewing experience from the comfort of their own homes. “We are excited to partner with UVNTV.com and SxSW to bring this live concert into the homes of people globally, using our Silverlight technology which delivers the high-def experiences that Ice Cube’s fans will love,” said Rob Pulciani, Microsoft’s senior marketing manager. The veteran MC is also hard at work on his new solo album Raw Footage, which is scheduled to hit stores on June 17 through his own Lench Mob Records. The project will feature guest appearances from Nas, Scarface and WC. Cube’s last album, 2006’s Laugh Now, Cry Later debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart and became the largest selling independent Hip-Hop release of that year.

Remy Ma’s Assault Trial Kicks Off in New York

Remy Ma’s trial on charges of assault kicked off in a Manhattan courtroom on Monday (March 10) with the prosecution and defense painting vastly different pictures of what happened on the night of July 14, 2007. According to the Associated Press, prosecutor Jason Berland accused the Bronx MC of pumping two .45 caliber bullets into Makeda Barnes-Joseph and then fleeing in her Cadillac Escalade. When she crashed the vehicle into a parked car, Berland claims, she fled to a friend’s house in Harlem without bothering to notify the police. But defense attorney Ivan Fisher countered that Barnes-Joseph had changed her story since testifying before a grand jury. According to Fisher, the gun fired accidentally as the two women struggled for the weapon. The defense implied that Barnes-Joseph’s account of the event changed as her lawyer was preparing a $20 million lawsuit against Remy. That suit has reportedly been withdrawn. The former Terror Squad MC was originally charged with attempted murder, but the charge was later reduced to assault after investigators determined that the weapon did in fact fire accidentally. She was also later indicted on witness tampering charges after she allegedly ordered a group of men to assault the boyfriend of a potential witness. Remy could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.

C-Murder Signs Akon To Book Deal; 'Thug Politics' On The Way

New Orleans rapper C-Murder continues to build on his successes in the literary world as the rapper announced today (March 11) that he has signed R&B superstar Akon to a book deal with TRU Publishing.

Akon’s new book will be titled Thug Politics and is the second release from C-Murder’s TRU Publishing company.

The first release from the new company was Jacki-O’s title Grown and Gangsta, which landed in book stores last month.

According to a representative for TRU Publishing, Akon’s book Thug Politics is due in stores in April or May.

C-Murder, Jacki-O and Akon will also join a literary campaign to promote their books, as well as literacy amongst children and teens.

C-Murder, born Corey Miller, is the younger brother of mogul Master P. and the uncle of teen rapper Lil’ Romeo.

In 2006, Miller released his critically acclaimed debut novel Death Around the Corner, which has sold an estimated 70,000 copies independently.

On June 9, the rapper’s retrial for allegedly shooting and killing a 16-year-old will begin.

Bohagon Leaves Lil Jon's BME Camp

Former Lil Jon protégé Bohagon has moved on from his situation with BME Recordings and Warner Brothers records, the rapper recently revealed to AllHipHop.com.

According to Bohagon, he is currently gearing up for the release of his long delayed debut, to be delivered via his own joint venture with Asylum Records.

First introduced to mainstream audiences via Lil Jon and the Eastside Boyz’ 2004 hit "Get Crunk," Bohagon said BME’s delay of his solo project was the primary reason for his renegotiation.

"The way it was situated, my album was gonna come out behind Scrappy’s album," Bohagon told AllHipHop.com. "BME put out Scrap’s album and they ain’t like how Warner Brothers was doing things. Somehow the deal got messed up and BME wanted to part ways with Warner Brothers. Warner Brothers kept me, Scrappy, and E-40. So we just worked out a situation where they offered me to Atlantic and Asylum. I felt I would have a better chance at Asylum."

The new partnership with Asylum establishes a home for Bohagon’s own imprint, Black Cartel, a label he established a little over a year ago with "Freaky Gurl" producer Cyber Sapp.

While Black Cartel prepares the release of Bohagon’s debut Who Am I, Bohagon said he intended to grow the label’s roster over time.

As for his relationship with Lil Jon, Bohagon says that while he has some regrets, he harbors no ill will towards the man who essentially gave him his first break.

"At the end of the day, Imma always be grateful ‘cause he took me out the hood as a little country ass ni**a from South Georgia, and took me around the world," the rapper continued. I wish he woulda been a lot more loyal; I wish he woulda kept it 100 with me. I can’t regret that time [with BME]. For the most part, it was a great learning experience."

Bohagon is currently in Germany, where he launched the promotional tour for Who Am I.

The album, which is due in stores this year, features appearances by Twista, Parlay of the Franchize Boyz and P$C’s Mac Bonney, as well as production by Nitti and Crime Mob producer Lil’ J.

The Game Still in Jail

Contrary to previous reports, rapper The Game is currently still behind bars. Although website TMZ.com previously reported that the MC had been released from the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, his manager Jimmy Henchmen confirmed to XXLMag.com that he is still in custody. The confusion over the Black Wall Street head’s release apparently arose from jail records that listed him as having been released late Sunday evening (March 9). While he did in fact leave the Twin Towers facility, he was moved to another facility for safety reasons. According to Henchmen, Game’s camp is still anticipating his early release due to over crowding in Los Angeles jails.

Dr. Dre’s Mother to Publish Memoirs

Dr. Dre’s mother, Verna Griffin, is set to publish her memoirs in a new book titled Long Road Outta Compton: Dr. Dre’s Mom on Family, Fame and Terrible Tragedy. Scheduled for release this June, the book will offer readers insight into Griffin’s personal struggles as a single mother in South Central Los Angeles. Griffin, who lost two of her five children in their infancy, and another to gang violence, often worried that she would also lose Dre to the streets. When the young producer teamed up with fellow N.W.A founder Eazy-E, she was less than thrilled with the often violent and explicit lyrical content that the group came to be known for pioneering. But she eventually came to accept the raunchy music for what it was. “I could remember my boys standing outside having a friendly conversation when, all of a sudden, I’d…see the police with all of them spread-eagle up against the police car,” she writes in an excerpt provided to Rush & Molloy of the New York Daily News. “This harassment was for no obvious reason except they saw black boys grouped together, and presumed to be up to no good. It was then I realized that the lyrics were just stories about things that were actually happening.” Long Road Outta Compton will be Griffin’s second published work. In 2005 she released Privileged to Live: A Mother’s Story of Survival.
